Zero Waste L.A.Check out some of our friends who are making a difference in this world by choosing conscientious ways to practice in their business, to be responsible and to make a difference in their everyday lives, for now and future generations. We are extremely happy to have assisted in their zero waste endeavers through resources and education. We have inspired many who have called on us for assistance and we love it. Please support these businesses... you will make a difference.
Earthday Audubon - 2005: Our first Zero waste festival. At that time a municipal Food Waste Recycling program was not available to us, so we got some friends, Zeik the Shiek and the Dervaes Family (Path To Freedom) to help with the composting of this event. Businesses like Mama's Hot Tamales Café and The Coffee Cellar used Biodegradable To-Go containers and utensils for this event.
Earthday Audubon - 2006: Zero Waste to the max... this year we even had assistance from a "Food Waste Recycling" Program where all organic waste went into a Municipal Compost Facility. We reused, recycled and composted and at the end we only had a small bag from McDonalds with some Styrofoam that someone had brought in... yep! We looked into every container to make sure that everything was going where it needed to go. And that's all we found! All the educational outreach we did paid off, most everyone that showed up to this festival was very aware of what we were doing and those who didn't learned.
Prabhupada Festival - 2006: What a great Festival! And what a great dude - We were contracted by Devala to assist in the Zero Waste of this Festival... it was a great attempt with lots of conscientious individuals assisting in this. A restaurant near by offered food in Styrofoam so we spent many hours doing Seva- going through the waste containers to separate it. Never the less this is what we do and we love it.
Path To Freedom: When the Dervaes (Jules, Anais, Justin and Jordanne) say they're going to have a Zero Waste event... they really mean it. When they presented "Kilowatt Ours" "The Great Warming" they invited us to assist and be part of this Zero Waste event. One of the most environmentally conscious families we have ever met... they really walk their path along with growing locally beyond organic produce you will never forget... Yum! Click to Delight your Senses. For the Dervaes, we not only deliver whenever they need goods for their events but we also feel part of the family.
The Coffee Cellar: Man! This guy was walking his talk way before we met him... Angel offers one of the best Organically grown, Fair Trade, and that's not all- conscientious to bird habitats too - delicious coffee. His lattes, Cappuccino and Cuban coffee are to froth for. You can find him and his espresso machine at Mama's Hot Tamales and at the Sunset Junction Farmer Market on Saturdays. He also offers retail and wholesale Coffee. Angel was our first Zero Waste supporter to work with us who truly understood what we were all about. He was a big part of both, Earthday Festival Audubon 2005 and 2006. And we feel that without his business knowledge and support for us, CaterGreen! Wouldn't have become a business. How about a Latte? Euphoria Loves Rawvolution: We love! "Euphoria Loves Rawvolution" Wow! Talking about walking your talk and being your conscience. This is one person who really has taken all environmental green solutions at hand and put it to practice in her restaurant... this is not just in her business, this is her way of life. Janabai was one of the only restaurant owners that showed up at the City of Santa Monica Council Meetings time after time in support of their ban on polystyrene to share her experience and knowledge with Biodegradable to-go containers. Euphoria - Janabai was our first client who has stayed by us even at challenging times... She's definitely one very sincere green conscientious being. Check out her yummy food... it is the sweetness of life has to offer.
Beverly Hill Juice Club: Meet Philip, one of the most involved in living his talk. Along with Jennifer and David, they have made sure to practice their business in the most environmental conscientious ways possible, from using Organic produce, to using biodegradable containers and utensils to recycling and composting. This is one of the only places in town that retails Biodegradable ware. Philip is also very involved in sharing what he knows and educating the public. Stop by, have a juice and say hello to Philip and see what he has in store... it's a real healthy treat that tastes good too!
Mama's Hot Tamales Café: Who said that Greening was mostly for the West? Huh! Check out this traditional restaurant with a conscience located in McArthur Park. This is a business that chose to be Socially Responsible and make a difference. Here you can also find Angel's The Coffee Cellar Espresso Bar. One of the first things we hear from business owners is that biodegradable products are too expensive... of course nothing compares to the cheapness of Styrofoam (one of the cheapest ways to pollute our environment). Well! Mama's is not only a small ma and pa restaurant but it is also a non-profit, and! she has completely converted to the use of biodegradable non-toxic to-go ware. Everything is recycled, reused and composted and most produce is locally sourced and organic. Come to Mama and have a tamal with a conscience. THE FIREHOUSE: When I came by to introduce to Leiko the Food Waste Recycling program, not only did she sign up right away, but she also switched to having Biodegradable To-Go ware as part of her everyday practice. Her vision is to go beyond recycling, composting and biodegradables. She also has a supportive staff that really cares about the environment, starting with Johnnie the manager who we work very closely with. Leiko is one of the most involved people in her community that also shares her environmental conscious information with other business owners. She's great to talk with and a great supporter. For more info call (310) 396-6810.
Large Marge Sustainables: Having a party and need a caterer? We highly recommend Large Marge Sustainables. Definitely a sincere zero waste educational experience you won't want to miss from using reusable china to locally grown organic produce and more! Large Marge you get an A+!
Teddy Yonenaka Craft Services: Well, this was a first one for us, and one of the most surreal delivery routes we've made yet. What a cool guy Phat Teddy, while providing his craft services to the movie Pirates of the Caribbean he decided to go Biodegradable and we helped him. Teddy went totally out of his way, more than anyone else we know to make this happen... and believe me, this is not that easy in this entertainment world. Thanks to Teddy we can say there's hope for the movie industry.
Canelé: Before they even opened their restaurant they had already decided to carry biodegradable to-go containers and to practice responsibly in their business, so they gave us a call. Now they are not only using biodegradables but also recycle and compost. What a yummy romantic place (with a conscience) to take your loved one. For more info call (323)666-7133. "TRASHED" If you get a chance to see this documentary... do it. It was well presented dealing with waste issues from different perspectives. This film showed the amount of waste generated by us humans and where it all goes - from a non-preaching point of view. We were invited to Zero Waste their opening night reception at USC to share what we know with their guests. We had one of the most supportive and fun nights at this event. Everyone was very open to learn about recycling, composting, reusing - bringing your own, other available solutions and to learn about Zero Waste and how easy it is. Global Green: We were really excited when Global Green called us for one of their events. For the Green Building Symposium they went Zero Waste with CaterGreen's assistance and we were happy to sponsor one of their benefit events. |
